Everyone loves Turkey. But what needs to change as a matter of urgency?
Anyone holidaying on the Turkish Riviera now has even more action to choose from. The popular Land of Legends theme park near Belek has opened its new water park area, ‘Waterfly’.
The Turkish Riviera is once again among Europe’s most beautiful seaside destinations in 2026. With 232 Blue Flag beaches, Antalya is once again number one in Turkey. A total of 580 Turkish beaches have been awarded this international quality mark.
More and more hotels on the Turkish Riviera are adopting an ‘adults-only’ concept – in other words, holidays exclusively for adults. A recent example: the new Delta Hotels by Marriott Antalya Lara (18+) reported an occupancy rate of around 80 per cent for June, which was well above the average for many city centres.
In the past, many holidaymakers used to stay for 10 to 14 days. Nowadays, more and more travellers are opting for shorter stays, but are more likely to treat themselves to a better hotel, an upgrade or special experiences.
Antalya aims to welcome around 18 million international visitors in 2026. In the first six months alone, over 5.5 million air travellers from abroad have already arrived. Nevertheless, some hotels – particularly in Alanya – are reporting lower occupancy rates than expected. The reasons cited include higher travel costs, airfares and the economic situation in key source markets.
That actually sounds illogical, doesn’t it?
Every year, millions of holidaymakers spend their summer in Side, Alanya, Belek or Antalya. Yet for many people who live and work here, a holiday in their own holiday destinations is hardly affordable.
Hardly any other topic sparks such a wide range of opinions on holiday. Some people enjoy a cigarette on the balcony or the hotel terrace. Others find the smoke a nuisance – particularly whilst eating, by the pool, or when the smoke drifts into their own room.
Hardly any other topic sparks more discussion on holiday than the infamous sun lounger reservation. Whilst some holidaymakers ‘reserve’ their favourite sun lounger with a towel first thing in the morning, they often don’t reappear until hours later.
