Antalya understanding

Antalya is not just a city – it is the beating heart of the Turkish Riviera. Here, 3,000 years of history meet modern beach life in close quarters. The winding old town Kaleiçi with its Ottoman wooden houses, the ancient harbor, the spectacular Düden waterfalls and endless beaches – all in one city. Over 15 million tourists per year can't be wrong. But we'll show you where the locals go.

Shopping

Where to buy, what to buy, how to bargain

In Antalya you can buy everything – from designer fakes to real gold. The trick is: knowing where and how.

Großer Basar (Kapalı Çarşı)

Gewürze, Tee, Süßigkeiten, Souvenirs

Elmalı Mah., Uzun Çarşı Sk.

Buy spices and Lokum here. Always halve the first offer, then continue bargaining.

Altes Basar-Viertel

Lederwaren, Taschen, Schmuck

Rund um Kaleiçi

Check quality! Real leather smells and feels different from fake.

MarkAntalya

Mode, Elektronik, Kino

Meltem Mah., Dumlupınar Blv.

Air-conditioned break from sightseeing. Turkish brands like LC Waikiki, Koton are affordable.

TerraCity

Luxusmarken, Restaurants

Fener Mah., Tekelioğlu Cd.

For western brands. Food court on the upper floor with a view.

Haggling like a pro

Show interest, but not too much. Never accept the first price.
Ask for the price, react surprised ("Çok pahalı!" = Too expensive!)
Offer 40-50% of the stated price. Seller will decline.
Walk slowly towards the door. The real price comes now.
Meet at 60-70% of the original price. Handshake, çay, deal!

No haggling in shopping malls, supermarkets and restaurants. Only at bazaars and small shops.

What to buy – and what not

Spices
Much cheaper than at home, fresher
Turkish Tea & Coffee
Authentic, great souvenir
Lokum (Turkish Delight)
But only from quality shops
Olive Oil
Excellent quality, affordable
Leather goods
Quality varies greatly, check carefully
Gold & Silver
Only from reputable dealers with certificate
Carpets
Risky without expertise, shipping complicated
Fake brands
